According to a complaint filed by the FTC, Reebok claimed that their shoes can increase strength by 11-28% in your calves, legs, and butt muscles compared to exercising in regular old shoes. Except none of that is backed up by any actual science. Oops. David Vladeck, the director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection told WWD, “The FTC wants national advertisers to understand that they must exercise {Ed.note: Ha! Pun intended?} some responsibility and ensure that their claims for fitness gear are supported by sound science.”

Finish is the process by which the final appearance of a shoe is created. The finish can include the application of polish to create a high-gloss finish, or a contrasting polish to create a rub-off finish like “antiquing”. When you scratch your shoe, you’ve damaged the shoe’s finish. The horror! Luckily, you can also buy shoe finish to remove shoe scuffs and blemishes. However, blogger Kasmira (pictured above) had moderate success using nail polish remover with acetone to remove a mark from her yellow pumps. Lauren Conrad was among the celebrity guests who ventured out to LA's Palihouse last night to preview the new shoes from Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet. LC, no stranger to design ventures herself, was decked out in one of Stacey's dresses and her signature "fun bun." These shoes are so eye-catching, I would wear a simple white or black dress, so as not to overshadow them. The color is diverse enough though that it would go well with many other colors. Have you seen those velvet slipper-loafers emblazoned with a regal emblem, the ones that have women everywhere trading in their heels for a Hugh Hefner vibe? Those luxe kicks are by Miami-based footwear brand Del Toro, which was founded by Matthew Chevallard (pictured) and two of his childhood friends. After realizing that the velvet shoes they wanted embroidered for their boarding-school graduation would cost them upwards $900, the boys identified a gap in the market for custom leisure footwear and took matters in to their own hands. By 2005, they rolled out their first pair of men's slip-ons, debuting a women's range a few years later, spawning a frenzy of new fans including the Man Repeller. Speaking of bloggers, Chevallard is a big fan. “I believe they help me educate consumers on the quality and styling of my shoes,” he explains to HighSnobette. While he looks to classic Italian women for style inspiration ("slim jeans and an oxford button down paired with either velvet slippers or driving shoes"), there are a few non-Italians that he’d love to see rocking his footwear, like Kate Middleton, Oprah Winfrey, Heidi Klum, and Marissa Miller. We can definitely see the Duchess of Cambridge in a royal version of the slippers, and we’re sure Ms. Winfrey would endorse a pair embroidered with a big golden O.
