The Top Spring 2010 Shoe Trends

Trend Report Time!

This spring, footwear essentials include futuristic platforms, super-girly dress sandals and safari-suede.  Look for translucent materials, blue, and a touch of 70s inspiration!  But the most essential style we’ll see when heading into the next fashion season is the opened-up boot or bootie.  And if you’re not a fan, that’s okay, but you will see them everywhere and in every style.

TOP TRENDS:

Ladylike details rule supreme, as seen at Pucci, Narciso Rodriguez and Alexandra Neel.  Lace, bows, frills…you name it!  I am in love with these sky-high stilettos, complete with fur and a strand of pearls wrapped around the ankle!

Peep Toe Booties are coming back with a vengeance, from styles that “let it all hang out”, to more demure cuts.  I personally don’t get this rough and tough, toe-revealing ankle boot.  I much prefer my peep toe booties to just barely show the tips of my pedicure…

The wedge, for both casual and elegant occasions, could be the season’s statement shoe.  Something inexplicable draws me to this simplistic yet modern wedge boot:

Platforms pack a punch when it comes to style savvy. Snakeskin is in again, too…and these nude mega platforms could anchor any outfit in wonderful form.

Bright Suede, particularly shades of blue, and orange (for the younger crowd) will be hot this season.

Nautical-Inspired looks will still run rampant, especially in the realm of women’s dress sandals.  Look for anchor charms, rope embellishments, cork details and red, white, and blue.  Designers like Charles David, Miss Sixty, and Modern Vintage have added the nautical-themed footwear to their list of Spring ’10 collections.

Zipper details have been huge this past season, and the trend continues, much to my pleasure.  If you really want to stand out, search for unique and interesting applications, such as the zippered flower on these black pumps:

So, you might ask, what is the “WOW” shoe of the season? The answer is, of course, McQueen’s grotesque and mind-boggling Armadillo shoe, as seen on Lady Gaga and below:
