Last night I attended the Spring 2010 Spanish Designer Footwear press preview at The Mad Museum in NYC. The show included collections from Chie Mihara, Magrit, Magnanni, Pura Lopez, and Sendra, and all of the shoes are handcrafted. Here’s what you can expect in terms of the styles and colors that will be hot next spring, as seen in these collections.
The Chie Mihara collection featured lots of neutral colors, block heels and wedges, and thick straps with feminine frills on the top of the foot. My favorite shoe is the “Kaida” (pictured below, in white), with its ruffly ankle cuff and simple strap over the toe. Beautiful and oh-so wearable!
And here’s a glimpse of their brand-new bridal collection:
Magnanni provides handcrafted quality, comfortable shoes for men. The most noteworthy of the shoes is the velvet loafer (available in negro, azul, or my favorite, burdeos) with an interchangeable tassel detail.
Magrit makes some beautiful women’s dress shoes, including colorful d’orsay pumps and strappy sandals with crystal embellishments. I was drawn to the amethyst platform sandal (pictured below, in first photo), with its tulle flower embellishment and crystal heel inlay. Some other noteworthy trends: espadrilles, gladiator sandals, and cutouts/mesh/see-through materials.
The Pura Lopez collection was nearly all espadrilles and wooden wedges and platforms, with a few strappy flat sandals thrown in. Cool colors such as blue, gray and light green took main-stage alongside beiges and browns.
Sendra Boots have western-inspired casual boots, with small stacked heels and antiqued textures. Some of the boots had embellishments such as zippers and buckles.
