I was reading Stylelist, and apparently, the Presidential Suite at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach in Florida boasts a wall of “shoe art” paying tribute to former First Ladies and other worldly dignitaries.  How did I not know about this wall before today?!  If I ever find myself in Palm Beach, and I’m itching to stay in a 2700-square-foot suite for $4,000 to $6,000 a night, I’ll make sure to stop here.  The gorgeous display of shoes was created by Miami designer Robert Tabor.

On January 17th, Michelle Obama’s shoe will make its debut on the wall.  This is also the First Lady’s birthday – what a gift!  The lemongrass-colored lace shoe is high-fashion, channeling Mrs. Obama’s dress at the Presidential Inauguration.  Other details on the shoe include a velvet and jeweled bow, an “Obama ’08″ campaign button at the toe, a heel inspired by the White House architecture, as well as a graduation cap and insignia from both Princeton and Harvard Law, and of course a family portrait.  I’m not a fan of the color…but I can appreciate this shoe as a piece of art.  What do you think of it?  Does it do a good job of nutshelling our First Lady?

Stylelist has a few pictures of other First Lady shoes, including Hilary Clinton’s blue pinstripe pump, complete with a spike heel going through a dog house labeled “Bill’s”.  Ha!

Take a look at more of Robert Tabor’s shoe sculptures on his website: http://www.roberttabor.com/shoes.htm
