With unique, yet feminine designs, Betsey Johnson, is a American fashion designer. Known for her free spirit personality, Betsey can be found cartwheeling at the end of everyone of her shows. Her career in Fashion began with winning the Mademoiselle Guest Editor Contest. After this remarkable experience in the fashion world, she became an in-house designer for Paraphernalia, a boutique in Manhattan, NY. This induction led to her influence in the youthquake fashion movement directly influenced by Andy Warhol himself.
Betsey Bunki Nini was opened in 1969 on the Upper East Side with Edie Sedgwick as Johnson's head model. Alley Cat, was her prominent label, in which she dressed most of the rock n' roll musicians of that time. 1978 brought the creation of her own fashion line and retail store. Currently, there are 45 Betsey Johnson stores internationally.
Johnson's influence on fashion is apparent with her 2002 induction on the Fashion Walk of Fame. Her line continues to grow along with her popularity with the addition of hats, scarves, accessories and handbags. Nearly every celebrity can be seen with a Betsey Johnson at some point. Some of these celebrities include: Minnie Driver, Heather Graham, Courtney Love, Lil Kim & Cyndi Lauper. Betsey Johnson's unique flavor is loved by all!
