Hardware and haute couture: Loewe’s surreal shoes

Excuse me. I think you have a lightbulb stuck to your heel.

These beautiful suede pumps are from Spanish fashion house Loewe. I love the combination of a retro style pump with a quirky, lightbulb heel. Loewe creative director Stuart Vevers used the country of Spain itself as an inspiration for his new collection, with Salvador Dali-like surrealism as a stimuli for these unique and stylish heels. Vevers also created this fantastic screwdriver t-strap heel:

I love Vevers mixture of hardware and haute couture. A combination of two completely different things to create something else all together - something with a lasting impact - these shoes are true art.

This type of style could have looked incredibly cheesey, but Vever’s shoes are nothing the opulence one would expect from a luxury line like Loewe’s - with a hidden bit edge. What do you think?

You can read about Stuart Vevers and Loewe in the July 2008 issue of US Vogue.
